RAF Specialist Aircrew, mainly Day Fighters / Ground Attack duties (Spitfire, Tempest, Vampire, Meteor and Hunter aircraft). Basic and Advanced Flight Instructor on Chipmunk, Provost, Vampire and Meteor aircraft. 1973-80 Combat Survival and Rescue Officer at the RAF School of Combat Survival and Rescue. main duties involved testing and reporting on all new survival equipment and procedures prior to introduction into the three services. (Awarded MBE for this work)

Special responsibility for the training of flight instructors, CPL's and IR's. Also Chief Pilot and Training Captain of the AOC (Air Taxi) operation.
1992 -present day - MAR Heald Aviation Consultancy
Presently operate a consultancy business which provides advice and assistance to potential pilots and pilots under training. I have been the UK representative of flight schools in the USA and in Canada and consultant to Student Assist of Niagara in Canada. I have been the Company Training Captain and Examiner for four UK based small air taxi companies and consultant to 15 different small airlines in Southern England, for CRM training of their crews. I also conducted Flight Instructor, CPL and Instrument Rating courses for a flight school in the Westcountry on a freelance basis. I also conduct occasional freelance refresher training of pilots locally, on an ad hoc basis. I contribute a regular article on pilot training to various aviation publications.
I am an Associate Member of the Royal Aeronautical Society and a Member of the British Association of Aviation Consultants. I am also on the Register of Expert Witnesses for aviation matters.
